Japan-Kuwait Relations

  1. On August 8, the Fifth Policy Consultations Meeting between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Japan and the State of Kuwait was held in Tokyo. From the Japanese side, Mr. ANDO Toshihide, Assistant Minister/Director-General of Middle Eastern and African Affairs Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, and from the Kuwaiti side, H.E. Ambassador Sameeh Essa Johar HAYAT, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Asian Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Kuwait attended the meeting among other officials.
  2. Following the upgrading of bilateral relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership on the occasion of the meeting between Prime Minister Ishiba and H.H. Sabah Khalid the Crown Prince of the State of Kuwait in May this year, the two sides exchanged views on ways to further strengthen cooperation in a wide range of areas, including bilateral cooperation in politics, economy, energy, culture and other areas, strengthening of bilateral contacts and exchanges, as well as cooperation in the international arena.
  3. Assistant Minister Ando expressed his appreciation for the stable supply of crude oil from Kuwait over the years and confirmed that the two countries will continue to promote cooperation in various areas in the energy sector.
  4. Both sides confirmed that they are in the final stages toward lifting the ban on imports of Japanese beef to Kuwait and will proceed with the necessary procedures.
  5. The two sides also exchanged views on the situation in the Middle East and East Asia and confirmed to strengthen cooperation between the two countries toward stabilization of the region.
  6. The two sides also confirmed that they will work closely together in the framework of the GCC, which Kuwait holds the GCC presidency this year.
