Japan-Kuwait Relations
Courtesy Call on Crown Prince Sabah Khalid of Kuwait by Foreign Minister Iwaya

On September 1, commencing at 10:00 a.m. local time (4 p.m. JST) for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who is visiting Kuwait, paid a courtesy call on H.H. Sheikh Sabah Khalid Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Crown Prince of the State of Kuwait. The overview of the meeting is as follows:
- At the outset, H.H. the Crown Prince welcomed Minister Iwaya's visit to Kuwait and expressed his hope to further enhance relations between Japan and Kuwait, as well as between Japan and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), for which Kuwait holds the presidency, in a wide range of areas. In response, Minister Iwaya stated his hope to further strengthen bilateral relations in a wide range of areas, based on the bilateral relations upgraded to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during the visit of His Highness the Crown Prince to Japan in May this year.
- The two sides exchanged views on bilateral relations in areas such as politics, economy, energy, and culture. Minister Iwaya expressed his gratitude for Kuwait's long-standing stable supply of crude oil to Japan and confirmed that the two countries would continue to promote cooperation in the energy sector.
- The two sides exchanged views on cooperation in the international arena, and confirmed that they would further strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
