Japan-Kuwait Relations

On December 13, commencing at 6:05 p.m. for approximately 25 minutes, Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan, held a telephone talk with H.H. Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Crown Prince of the State of Kuwait. The overview of the talk is as follows.

  1. At the outset, Prime Minister Kishida congratulated the success of the National Assembly elections in Kuwait in September this year and the formation of new cabinet, and praised the strong initiative of the Crown Prince in this regard. In response, Crown Prince stated that he would like to further strengthen the historically friendly relationship between the two countries.
  2. Prime Minister Kishida pointed out that the two countries share basic positions such as democracy, compliance with the international law and emphasis on the UN. Both sides agreed to further strengthen the bilateral relationship, which celebrated the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2021, in wide range of areas.
  3. Prime Minister Kishida expressed his appreciation for the stable supply of crude oil from Kuwait to Japan and expressed his expectation for Kuwait’s leading role in stabilizing the international crude oil market. Both sides agreed to cooperate in the international arena, including the energy sector.
