Japan-Iran Summit Telephone Talk

On February 9, commencing at 7:00 p.m. for 30 minutes, Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan held a telephone talk with H.E. Ayatollah Seyyed Ebrahim RAISI, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The overview is as follows.

  1. At the outset, Prime Minister Kishida expressed his intention to cooperate with President Raisi to further strengthen the historically friendly relationship between Japan and Iran. In response, President Raisi expressed his intention to work together with Prime Minister Kishida towards expanding the relationship between Japan and Iran, which has a long history of over 90 years of diplomatic relations.
  2. The Leaders exchanged candid views on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), given the recent situation. Prime Minister Kishida stated that Japan has consistently supported the JCPOA and expressed his hopes for the early return to compliance with the JCPOA by relevant countries. Both sides agreed to continue close communication on this matter.
  3. In addition, the two leaders exchanged views on the situation in Middle East including Yemen.
