Japan-Iran Summit Telephone Call

On April 30, commencing at 6:25 p.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Ms. TAKAICHI Sanae, Prime Minister of Japan, held a summit telephone call with H.E. Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
- At the outset, Prime Minister TAKAICHI expressed her strong expectation for the early resumption of U.S.-Iran talks and the achievement of a final agreement.
- Furthermore, Prime Minister TAKAICHI stated that she considers the passage through the Strait of Hormuz of a Japan-related vessel with three Japanese crew members on board as a positive development, including from the perspective of protection of Japanese nationals. She strongly urged Iran to promptly ensure free and safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz for vessels of all countries including Japan and other Asian countries.
- In response, President Pezeshkian explained Iran’s views including the future outlook, and the two leaders concurred on continuing close communication.
