On March 5, commencing at 4:00 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Ms. TAKAICHI Sanae, Prime Minister of Japan, received a courtesy call from H.E. Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Special Envoy of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Japan, who is visiting Japan. The overview is as follows:

  1. At the outset, Prime Minister TAKAICHI expressed her concern over the recent deterioration of the situation surrounding Iran, and stated that Japan condemns attacks by Iran against civilian facilities and other targets. Prime Minister TAKAICHI also requested the UAE’s cooperation in ensuring the safety of Japanese nationals and the stable supply of oil to Japan. In response, Minister Jaber expressed the UAE’s intention to cooperate in ensuring the safety of Japanese nationals and stable supply of oil.
  2. Both sides welcomed the conclusion of the negotiations for Japan-UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), for which negotiations had been launched between the two countries in September 2024. They also concurred to continue cooperating towards the signing of this agreement between the two countries.
  3. Prime Minister TAKAICHI also expressed her hope to further strengthening cooperation in various fields with the UAE, who is a comprehensive strategic partner of Japan. In response, Minister Jaber expressed his renewed hope for strengthening bilateral relations with Japan.
