On Sunday, January 14, Mr. Taro Kano, Minister for Foreign Affairs paid a courtesy call on H.H. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The overview of the meeting is as follows.

  1. In the beginning, Crown Prince Sheikh Mohamed mentioned that he welcomed sincerely Minister Kono's revisit to Abu Dhabi, and that he would like to further strengthen the bilateral relationship in various fields as the partnership with Japan is important. Minister Kono replied that he was glad to revisit the UAE to attend the General Assembly of International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) for the first time as a Japanese Foreign Minister, adding that it is important for the two countries to closely cooperate to solve challenges the world is facing, under the strategic partnership of the two nations. 
  2. In addition, they exchanged views on the situation in East Asia including North Korea, and the situation in the Middle East.
