On September 25, commencing at 6:35 pm for approximately 20 minutes, H.E. Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan, received a courtesy call from H.E. Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Special Envoy of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Japan, who is visiting Japan. The overview is as follows.

  1. At the outset, Prime Minister Kishida welcomed the convening of the First Ministerial Level Meeting of the “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Initiative (CSPI)” held between Foreign Minister Kamikawa and Minister Jaber, and stated that Japan attaches great importance to the strategic partnership with the UAE and looks forward to cooperating in various fields. In response, Minister Jaber expressed his renewed hopes for strengthening bilateral relations with Japan.
  2. Prime Minister Kishida expressed his appreciation for the UAE’s stable supply of crude oil to Japan and the UAE’s generosity towards participation of Japanese companies in the upstream development over long years, and requested cooperation towards stabilization of the crude oil market and production increase. Both sides exchanged views on cooperation between Japan and the UAE towards the stabilization of the international oil market, the "Japan-UAE Innovation Partnership" and the "Global Green Energy Hub" concept concurred during Prime Minister Kishida's recent visit to the UAE.
  3. Minister Jaber, in his capacity as the COP28 President-Designate, expressed his renewed hopes for Japan’s contributions to the COP28. In response, Prime Minister Kishida stated that Japan is fully committed to making efforts to contribute to the success of COP28, including on the global stocktake. Both sides confirmed that they will work closely together towards the success of COP28.
