Japan-Türkiye Relations

 On April 5, commencing at 8:00 p.m. for approximately 25 minutes, Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan, held a telephone talk with H.E. Mr. Recep Tayyip ERDOĞAN, President of the Republic of Turkey. The overview of the talk is as follows.

  1. Prime Minister Kishida highly appreciated Turkey's condemnation of Russia's aggression against Ukraine and its consistent stance in upholding Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. The two leaders confirmed that they would continue to cooperate closely and coordinate with each other in the international arena in order to fully protect the foundation of the international order. The two leaders also exchanged views on United Nations Security Council reform and concurred on the need for reform. President Erdoğan explained Turkey's mediation efforts and other activities.
  2. The two leaders shared the view on deepening the friendly relations between Japan and Turkey toward the year 2024, the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
