Courtesy Call on H.E. Mr. al-Sheikh, Vice President of Palestine by Foreign Minister MOTEGI

On January 11, commencing at 6:00 p.m. local time (1:00 a.m. on January 12, Japan time) for approximately 60 minutes, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Hussein al-Sheikh, Vice President of Palestine, during his visit to Palestine. The overview of the meeting is as follows:
- At the outset, Minister MOTEGI stated that the robust implementation of the Comprehensive Plan is crucial for improving the situation surrounding Israel and Palestine, and Japan will play a proactive role. Vice President al-Sheikh expressed his welcome for Minister MOTEGI’s visit to Palestine and explained Palestinian Authority’s position toward rebuilding Gaza.
- Minister MOTEGI explained Japan's consistent support for a two-state solution and its position on supporting Palestinian state-building efforts, while emphasizing the importance of robust progress in the Palestinian Authority reforms, and expressing his expectation on the leadership of President Abbas and Vice President al-Sheikh. In response, Vice President al-Sheikh expressed his gratitude for Japan's longstanding support and commitment to a two-state solution.
- The two sides concurred on working together including through “Japan-Palestine High-level Political Dialogue”.
