Japan-Jordan Summit Telephone Talk

On January 31, commencing at 7:00 p.m. for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan, held a summit telephone talk with His Majesty King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein, King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The overview of the talk is as follows.
- At the outset, Prime Minister Kishida stated that the cooperative relationship between Japan and Jordan is steadily progressing based on the strategic partnership, and expressed his hope to strengthen the relationship for further development. Prime Minister Kishida also reaffirmed Japan’s support for a two-state solution regarding the Middle East Peace. In response, King Abdullah II extended his congratulations on the victory in the recent general election, and appreciated Japan’s position and contribution regarding the Middle East Peace.
- In addition, Prime Minister Kishida informed that Japan had provided Jordan with approximately $100 million as the COVID-19 Crisis Response Emergency Support Loan at the end of last year, and that Japan would continue its support for UNRWA. King Abdullah II, in response, expressed his gratitude for Japan’s wide-ranging cooperation for Jordan and UNRWA.
- The two leaders concurred that they would continue to work closely together.
