The 4th Japan-Uruguay Policy Consultation and the 2nd Japan-Uruguay Joint Committee
1. The 4th Japan-Uruguay Policy Consultation
On October 3, commencing at 10:00 a.m. for approximately two hours, the fourth session of the Japan-Uruguay Policy Consultation was held in Tokyo.
The Japanese side was represented by Mr. ISHIZE Motoyuki, Director General of the Latin American and Caribbean Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while the Uruguayan side was represented by H.E. Mrs. Valeria Csukasi, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs.
The two representatives welcomed the promotion of bilateral relations after the new Uruguayan administration launched in March, 2025, and confirmed their intention to enhance bilateral relations further in areas such as economic relations including trade and investment, and people-to-people exchange. They also discussed cooperation in the international arena, confirmed that they share the position, and exchanged views on international and regional affairs including the situations in Ukraine, East Asia, and Latin America and the Caribbean.
2. The 2nd Japan-Uruguay Joint Committee
On October 3, commencing at 2:30 p.m. for approximately three hours, the second session of the Japan-Uruguay Joint Committee was held in Tokyo.
The Japanese side was represented by Mr. ISHIZE Motoyuki, Director General of the Latin American and Caribbean Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while the Uruguayan side was represented by H.E. Mrs. Valeria Csukasi, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs. The committee was also attended by, from Japan, members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, JICA, JETRO, and JBIC.
In this session, the participants discussed cross-sectoral cooperation in areas such as promotion of trade and investment, digital transformation (DX) / 5G, green transformation (GX) / decarbonization, and regional partnership, and confirmed their intention to strengthen bilateral relations further.
