On May 14, Mr. HORII Iwao, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, attended the National Day and 90th Anniversary of Japanese Immigration Reception hosted by the Embassy of Paraguay in Tokyo. The outline is as follows:

  1. State Minister Horii attended the commemorative reception celebrating Paraguay's 215th anniversary of independence and the 90th anniversary of Japanese immigration. Following speeches by H.E. Mr. TOYOTOSHI, Ambassador of Paraguay to Japan, H.E. Mr. KIUCHI Minoru, Minister of State for Special Missions, and H.E. Mr. TANI Kouichi, President of the Japan-Paraguay Parliamentary Friendship League, he delivered a toast speech on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  2. In his speech, State Minister Horii emphasized that Japan and Paraguay are strategic partners sharing values and principles, and that the approximately 10,000 Nikkei community has made significant contributions to the development of Paraguayan society by being active in various fields, especially agriculture.
  3. At the beginning of the reception, a video message from H.E. Mr. Santiago Peña, the President of Paraguay to Japan was shown, commemorating the 90th anniversary of Japanese immigration.
