A visa exemption arrangement between Japan and Peru was concluded in 1972, and since then Peruvian nationals may enter Japan without obtaining a visa for a period not exceeding 90 consecutive days (short-term stay) under certain conditions. In 1995, the Government of Japan began recommending that Peruvian nationals obtain a visa in advance to enter Japan, in view of the circumstances of the time.
