Japan-Colombia Relations

On April 24, Mr. HORII Iwao, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, attended a reception held at the Residence of the Ambassador of Colombia to Japan and delivered an address on behalf of the Government of Japan. The overview is as follows:

  1. In his address, State Minister HORII noted that this year marks the 118th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Colombia and that the 120th anniversary will be celebrated in 2028, and stated that, through their long-standing and friendly diplomatic relations, the two countries have built a close cooperative relationship.
  2. State Minister HORII referred to Special Envoy of the Prime Minister Matsuyama’s visit to Colombia, President Petro’s visit to Japan, and the Japan-Colombia Summit Meeting, noting that the bilateral relationship has become more active with the holding of the Expo and Colombia’s pavilion exhibition. He also stated that the Government of Japan would continue to promote further strengthening of the bilateral relationship.
