Japan-Colombia Summit Meeting
September 4, 2025


On September 4, commencing at 3:00 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. ISHIBA Shigeru, Prime Minister of Japan held a summit meeting with H.E. Mr. Gustavo Francisco PETRO URREGO, President of the Republic of Colombia, who is visiting Japan.
1. Introduction
- Prime Minister ISHIBA welcomed President Petro on his first visit to Japan, and commended exchanges and cooperation between both countries being more active through the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan. He stated that Japan would continue to strengthen the cooperation with Colombia as a traditional amicable country.
- In response, President Petro stated that this summit meeting is important for the further development of bilateral relations and expressed his desire to continue to work closely to develop economic relations and people-to-people exchanges continuously.
2. Bilateral Relations
- Prime Minister Ishiba noted that Colombia is the world's second-largest exporter of flowers and invited its participation in GREEN×EXPO 2027. He also stated his support for Colombia's efforts to consolidate domestic peace and his willingness to collaborate in achieving global decarbonization.
- President Petro highlighted the importance of decarbonization and peace and mentioned his desire to further strengthen cooperation with Japan across various fields including development.
3. Cooperation in the international arena
The two leaders exchanged views on the cooperation in the international arena, and confirmed their intention to work closely together.
