Japan-Brazil Relations

On November 20, 2015 in Tokyo, the Government of Japan and the Government of Brazil held the 4th Japan-Brazil Joint Committee on Cooperation in Science and Technology. The Joint Committee was opened by the remarks of co-chairs, Mr. Makoto Katsura, Ambassador for Science and Technology Cooperation, and Dr. Jailson de Andrade, Secretary of Research and Development Policies and Programs, Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

The Joint Committee brought together high-level representatives from a wide range of government agencies of both countries. They presented the overview and progress of their science, technology and innovation policies and noted the recent developments of their cooperative activities in the fields of marine science, space science, disaster prevention, biotechnology, agricultural research, and information and communications technology. They also exchanged information on their joint research and researchers’ exchange.

In the course of the constructive discussions held today at the Joint Committee, the co-chairs re-acknowledged that the cooperation in science and technology between both countries had been steadily advancing and expressed their will to work together to expand further such cooperation. It was confirmed the next Joint Committee would be held in Brazil and the specific date of the meeting will be coordinated through diplomatic channels.
