Foreign Minister Hayashi’s meeting with Argentines of Japanese Descent

On January 10, commencing at 6:10 p.m. (local time; 6:10 a.m. on January 11 JST) for approximately 60 minutes, Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who is visiting Buenos Aires, Argentina, met with seven representatives of the Nikkei (Japanese immigrants and descendants) community in Argentina. The overview is as follows.
- Minister Hayashi expressed his respect for past efforts made by the Nikkei community in Argentina as, he believes, Argentine society’s faith in Japan is based on the trust in Nikkei people won by the local Nikkei community. Minister Hayashi also stated that, with the generational change and the shifting environment surrounding Nikkei, it is important to promote networking within Nikkei, and that the Government of Japan is willing to continue to support it.
- The Nikkei representatives welcomed Minister Hayashi's visit to Argentina, expressed their gratitude for support from the Government of Japan including the Embassy, and stated that the Nikkei community would continue to contribute to the local community.
