2nd Japan-Guatemala Policy Consultations
On June 30, the 2nd Japan-Guatemala Policy Consultations took place in Tokyo. The Japanese side was represented by Mr.ISHIZE Motoyuki, Assistant Minister and Director-General of Latin America and the Caribbean Affairs Bureau, while the Guatemalan side was represented by Ms. Monica Renata Bolaños Pérez, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs for Multilateral and Bilateral Affairs.
During the consultations, Japan and Guatemala, strategic partners with over 90 years of friendly relations who share common values and principles, reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral ties across a wide range of fields, including politics, economy, and development cooperation. A broad exchange of views was also held to further enhance coordination on regional and international issues.

In May 2024, on the occasion of the Japan-Guatemala Foreign Ministers' Meeting, a signing ceremony was held for a memorandum of understanding on the establishment of the Japan-Guatemala Policy Consultations.
In January 2025, the 1st Policy Consultations took place in Guatemala City (the Japanese side was represented by Mr.NOGUCI Yasushi, Assistant Minister and Director-General of Latin America and the Caribbean Affairs Bureau, and the Guatemalan side was represented by Ms. Monica Renata Bolaños Pérez, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs for Multilateral and Bilateral Affairs.).
