On 29 June, Ms. Eri Arfiya, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, received a courtesy call from H.E. Ms. Mónica Renata Bolaños Pérez, Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Guatemala (Multilateral and Bilateral), for approximately 30 minutes from 2:00 p.m.

  1. At the outset, Parliamentary Vice Minister Eri stated that Guatemala is a “strategic partner” sharing values and principles with Japan, and expressed Japan's desire to further strengthen bilateral relations going forward. In response, Vice Minister Bolaños stated that the two countries boast a friendly relationship spanning more than 90 years and, building on the outcomes of President Alvarado’s visit to Japan, they wish to further strengthen bilateral relations in various fields, including the economy, under the evolved “Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP).”
  2. In addition, the two sides exchanged views on cooperation in the international arena, including nuclear disarmament and United Nations reform, and confirmed that they would continue to collaborate in these areas as well.
