On May 18, for approximately 30 minutes from 5:30 p.m., Mr. HORII Iwao, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, received a courtesy call from H. E. Mr. Julio Eduardo Orozco Pérez, Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala.

  1. State Minister HORII stated that Guatemala is a strategic partner for Japan, sharing values and principles, and expressed his pleasure at the progress in economic relations, such as new investments by Japanese companies and the planned visit of a Keidanren mission, following President Arévalo's visit to Japan last year. In response, Vice-Minister Orozco stated that, based on the outcomes of President Arévalo's visit to Japan, he expects further promotion of economic relations by explaining investment opportunities to companies interested in Guatemala. He also expressed gratitude for Japan's development cooperation.
  2. They also exchanged views on Guatemala's investment environment and confirmed their continued cooperation toward promoting economic relations.
