Meeting between State Minister HORII and Ambassador Cuyún

On March 16, commencing at 10:30 a.m for approximately 30 minutes, State Minister for Foreign Affairs HORII Iwao received a courtesy call from H.E. Mr. Jacobo Cuyún, Ambassador-designate of the Republic of Guatemala to Japan. The summary is as follows:

  1. State Minister Horii welcomed Ambassador Cuyún's arrival and stated that Guatemala is a strategic partner for Japan, sharing values and principles. He also mentioned that last year marked the 90th anniversary of diplomatic relations, and President Arévalo visited Japan during the Osaka-Kansai Expo, leading to progress in economic relations and cooperation in the development sector. In response, Ambassador Cuyún stated that, based on the outcomes of the President's visit to Japan, he would like to continue strengthening cooperative relations with Japan, including economic ties.

     

  2. Furthermore, they exchanged views on regional situations, including North Korea, and cooperation in the international arena, confirming their continued close collaboration.
