Meeting between Parliamentary Vice-Minister Eri and Mayor Mejía

On February 17, commencing at 3:00 p.m. for approximately 45 minutes, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs ERI Arfiya received a courtesy call from Ms. Carolina Mejía, Mayor of the National District of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, who is visiting Japan upon the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. The summary is as follows:

Parliamentary Vice-Minister Eri welcomed Mayor Mejía’s visit to Japan, stating that Japan and the Dominican Republic have enjoyed a friendship spanning over 90 years and are important partners who share values and principles. She also noted that the Japanese community living in the Dominican Republic has long contributed to the country’s development and to strengthening relations between Japan and the Dominican Republic.
  2. In response, Mayor Mejía expressed her gratitude for the invitation extended by the Japanese government and Japan’s long-standing support to the Dominican Republic. She also stated that she hopes to further enhance cooperation between Japan and the Dominican Republic in various fields, such as environmental areas including climate change, and that she intends to apply the knowledge gained during this visit to the development of Santo Domingo.
