Japan-Cuba Relations

On May 1, Mr. Fumio Kishida, Minister for Foreign Affairs, who is visiting Cuba, held a meeting with a group of Japanese companies who are visiting Cuba alongside his visit. The overview of the meeting is as follows.  
  1. At the beginning, Minister Kishida stated that upon this first visit to Cuba as a Japanese Foreign Minister, he hopes to use this important opportunity to advance further the bilateral relationship between the two countries. 
  2. The delegate of the group stated that in light of the improving relationship between Cuba and the United States, Japanese companies’ interest in Cuba is increasing and thus it is encouraging to have the need for improving the business environment conveyed by Minister Kishida to the Cuban side. 
  3. Following that, Minister Kishida and the Japanese company delegation actively exchanged views on the development of the Japan-Cuba relations up to now, Cuba’s potential, the outlook going forward, as well as fields of interest on the side of Japanese companies.
