Japan-Cuba Relations

June 6, 2016

On June 2, Mrs. Lis Cuesta Peraza, the spouse of H. E. Mr. Miguel Mario Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Vice-President of the Councils of State and Ministers of the Republic of Cuba, paid a courtesy call to Mrs. Akie Abe, the spouse of the Prime Minister of Japan.

Mrs. Abe expressed her pleasure of being able to welcome Mrs. Cuesta on her first visit to Japan, while Mrs. Cuesta said that she has been interested in Japanese traditional culture and that she was delighted to be able to visit Japan. Mrs. Cuesta also told Mrs. Abe that she was very much impressed by her visit to Hiroshima on the previous day.

Mrs. Cuesta mentioned that she was engaged in promotion of Cuba’s cultural tourism as Academic Service Manager of the Cultural Promotion Agency of Cuba, and Mrs. Abe responded by saying that Japan is also putting effort into boosting tourism, and the promotion of tourism through cultural exchange would lead to Local Revitalization. They also exchanged views on their common interests such as preservation of traditional culture and promotion of cultural tourism.
