Japan-Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Talk

On July 19, commencing at 7:45 p.m. local time (9:45 a.m. on July 20 Japan time) for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who is visiting Jamaica, held a telephone talk with Dr. the Hon. Ralph Gonsalves, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. The overview of the talk is as follows.
- Minister Motegi expressed his sympathy over the extensive damage to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines caused by the eruption of La Soufrière Volcano this April, and stated that Japan provided emergency relief goods in April and decided in July to extend Emergency Grant Aid of 1.58 million US dollars for assistance such as shelter renovation and food assistance. Minister Motegi also stated that Japan is implementing grant aid for the provision of medical equipment as a measure against COVID-19.
- Prime Minister Gonsalves expressed his gratitude for Japan’s assistance.
- The two ministers also discussed regional affairs and cooperation in international fora.
