On May 1, commencing at 9:00 a.m. (local time; 10:00 p.m. on the same day JST) for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who is visiting the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, held a meeting with the Hon. Stuart Young, Minister of Energy and Energy Industries of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

  1. At the outset, Minister Young welcomed Minister Hayashi's visit to Trinidad and Tobago, and Minister Hayashi expressed that he is pleased to visit Trinidad and Tobago as the first Japanese Foreign Minister.
  2. Minister Hayashi touched upon the activities of Japanese companies in Trinidad and Tobago, particularly in the energy sector, and requested the continued cooperation in creating an appropriate business environment. In response, Minister Young welcomed the activities of Japanese companies, which contribute to the economy of Trinidad and Tobago, and stated that he would continue to cooperate, and that he welcomes further Japanese investments in the areas of energy and other sectors.
  3. The two ministers exchanged views, including on the importance of a stable energy supply, while also taking into account the situation in Ukraine
