Japan-Panama Relations

April 26, 2016

On April 20, Mrs. Akie Abe, the spouse of the Prime Minister of Japan, held talks with Mrs. Castillo de Varela, the visiting First Lady of the President of the Republic of Panama.

The meeting was held in a friendly atmosphere where Mrs. Akie Abe expressed her pleasure of being able to welcome Mrs. Castillo de Varela in Japan. Mrs. Akie Abe also showed her respect to Mrs. Castillo de Varela putting great effort into various social welfare activities including addressing HIV/AIDS-related issues as Special Ambassadress for the Joint United Nations Program on HIV / AIDS (UNAIDS) for Latin America.

Mrs. Castillo de Varela said that she received the idea that could be used in Panama from her visit to the home for infants of the Japanese Red Cross Medical Center and the Japanese Red Cross Welfare Center.

Since Mrs. Akie Abe is also engaged in the social activities related to HIV/AIDS, both Mrs. Akie Abe and Mrs. Castillo de Varela shared common interest and exchanged views on the field of social welfare activities, including HIV/AIDS issues and social vulnerable people.
