Courtesy Call on Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Tachibana by the Most Honourable Mrs. Juliet Holness, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Jamaica

On February 5, commencing at 9:30 a.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. TACHIBANA Keiichiro, Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary, received a courtesy call from the Most Honourable Mrs. Juliet Holness, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Jamaica, who is visiting Japan upon invitation from the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Japan. The overview is as follows.
- At the outset, Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Tachibana welcomed Speaker Holness’s visit to Japan, and expressed his confidence that this visit will further strengthen the relationship between the two countries, which celebrated the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations last year.
- Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Tachibana also stated that the two countries have seen the deepening of bilateral cooperation in various areas, including maritime affairs, defense, security, and culture, and expressed his expectation that the two countries will work hand in hand together also in international fora as global partners that share the same values and principles.
- Speaker Holness expressed her honor to be the first Speaker of the House of Representatives of Jamaica to make an official visit to Japan. She also stated that the cooperative relationship between Japan and Jamaica is not one based on interests, but on shared values, and that this visit provides an opportunity for the two countries to confirm their cooperation bilaterally and in international fora, and to strengthen collaboration at the parliamentary level.
