Japan-Haiti Relations

On September 22 (local time), Mr. ISHIZE Motoyuki, Director-General of Latin American and Caribbean Affairs Bureau, attended the "High-Level Meeting on Haiti" as side event of the 80th UN General Assembly. This meeting was co-hosted by the United States and the Republic of Kenya, which is currently deploying troops to the Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission in Haiti. Representatives from 14 countries and organizations participated, including H.E. Dr. William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya.

  1. The meeting shared lessons learned from the ongoing MSS mission activities and discussed future approaches for stabilizing Haiti.
  2. Representing Japan, Director-General ISHIZE expressed respect for the activities of the MSS Mission and the Haitian National Police working towards Haiti's stabilization. He also stated that Japan is providing support through international organizations, such as support for ensuring the deployment of the MSS mission and the Haitian National Police and assistance in strengthening international border control.
