Japan-Haiti Relations

On July 8, 2021, Prime Minister SUGA Yoshihide sent a letter of condolence to H.E. Dr. Claude JOSEPH, Acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Haiti, on the passing of H.E. Mr. Jovenel MOÏSE, President of the Republic of Haiti, on July 7. The content of the letter is as follows:

Excellency,

Following the sudden passing of H.E. Mr. Jovenel MOÏSE, President of the Republic of Haiti, I would like to express, on behalf of the Government and people of Japan, my deepest condolences to the bereaved family and the people of the Republic of Haiti. Japan strongly condemns the despicable attack and the murder of President MOÏSE, and hopes for the early recovery of Madame First Lady.

President MOÏSE devoted himself to realizing the inclusive development of Haiti by advancing domestic reforms, while also contributing to the further development of Japan-Haiti cooperative relationship. I would like to pay tribute to President MOÏSE in memory of his achievements and pray for the repose of his soul.
