Japan’s View on the Announcements of Withdrawal by some African States from the International Criminal Court (ICC)

- In order to ensure that the ICC contributes further to the rule of law in international community, Japan considers it important for the ICC to have as many States Parties as possible. In this regard, it is disappointing to see recent decisions taken by some African states towards withdrawal from the ICC.
- Japan continues to cooperate with other states, including African states, to gain support and cooperation from a greater number of states towards the activities of the ICC.
