On October 15, commencing at 9:25 a.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. AKAHORI, Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held an exchange of views with Mr. Filippo Grandi, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The overview is as follows:

  1. At the outset, Senior Deputy Minister AKAHORI expressed his deep respect to High Commissioner Grandi for his leadership over the past ten years, and stated on the intention of further collaboration with UNHCR to improve the situation where numerous people worldwide have been forcibly displaced.
  2. In response, High Commissioner Grandi expressed his gratitude for Japan's support to date and stated his expectation for further strengthening of the cooperative relationship between Japan and UNHCR.
  3. In addition, both sides exchanged views on the Humanitarian, Development and Peace (HDP) Nexus and the increase of Japanese staff in UNHCR.
