The 3rd Japan-IFAD Strategic Dialogue

On February 25, the 3rd Japan-IFAD Strategic Dialogue was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.
- On the Japanese side, officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, and the Ministry of Finance attended, with Mr. OBA Yuichi, Deputy Assistant Minister of the International Cooperation Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, serving as head of the delegation, while on the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) side, Ms. Federica Diamanti, Associate Vice-President for External Relations, served as head of the delegation.
- In this dialogue, based on the concrete achievements such as rural development and support for small-scale farmers in developing countries with participation of Japanese companies, the two sides confirmed that Japan and IFAD will further strengthen their cooperation going forward.
- Furthermore, the two sides exchanged views on investments in global food systems, private sector engagement, strengthening the presence of Japanese staff at IFAD, and responses to the IFAD14 replenishment process.

The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) is a United Nations specialized agency established in 1976 (headquarters in Rome). It currently has 180 member states (Japan joined in 1977 as an original member). IFAD promotes and supports sustainable agricultural development in developing countries, mainly in Africa and Asia, through loans and grants.
