Japan and the United Nations

On April 20, commencing at 2:25 p.m. for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. KIHARA Minoru, Chief Cabinet Secretary, received a courtesy call from Mr. Alexander DE CROO, Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), who is visiting Japan.

  1. Chief Cabinet Secretary KIHARA welcomed Administrator DE CROO’s first visit to Japan since assuming office as UNDP Administrator, and stated that UNDP is an important partner that advances TICAD together with Japan and works toward the achievement of the SDGs based on the concept of human security. He also expressed his intention to continue to promote cooperation as the international community faces multiple crises.
  2. In response, Administrator DE CROO expressed appreciation for Japan’s contributions to UNDP and expressed his determination to continue to promote cooperation with Japan across a wide range of areas. He also expressed his intention to further deepen trust with Japan as a important partner.
  3. Chief Cabinet Secretary KIHARA stated that providing assistance in a way that visibly reflects Japan’s contributions is important for both Japan and UNDP, while calling for the enhancement of recruitment and promotion of Japanese staff at UNDP and enhanced collaboration with Japanese companies.
