1. In order to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Gavi COVAX Advance Market Commitment Summit 2022 will be held to ensure equitable access to safe, effective, and quality-assured vaccines in developing countries. This Summit will be organized to raise additional funding to secure necessary vaccines and to strengthen delivery systems through the COVAX Facility.
2. This meeting will be co-hosted by Germany, holding this year’s G7 presidency, Indonesia, holding this year's G20 presidency, Senegal, holding this year's AU presidency and Gavi. Mr. Scholz, Federal Chancellor of Germany, and other donor countries representatives, representatives of recipient countries, regions with support through COVAX and international organizations plan to attend this meeting.
3. Even if countries succeed in overcoming the COVID-19 domestically, as long as the virus still remains somewhere in the world, there is still a risk of it spreading again. In particular, vaccination rate remains low in some developing countries such as Africa and it is important to continue to provide support based on the actual conditions and needs of developing countries with a view to preventing the spread of new variants. At this Summit, Japan intends to express its contribution for equitable access to vaccines with a view to achieving universal health coverage.

　The COVAX Facility is a comprehensive mechanism for resource mobilization and supply coordination led by Gavi. It aims to secure equitable access to vaccines regardless of income levels. COVAX enables supply of the COVID-19 vaccines swiftly at an affordable price, leveraging economies of scale through guaranteeing purchase and market demand for vaccine.The COVAX Advance Market Commitment (AMC) requires funds totaling at least US$5.2.
