Meeting between Mr. TAKEI Shunsuke, State Minister for Foreign Affairs and Mr. Yannick Glemarec, Executive Director of the Green Climate Fund

On February 8, Mr. TAKEI Shunsuke, State Minister for Foreign Affairs received a courtesy call by Mr. Yannick Glemarec, Executive Director of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and had discussions for approximately 40 minutes, during his visit to Japan.
- State Minister TAKEI extended a warm welcome to Executive Director Glemarec, visiting Japan following his previous visit in July 2022 and expressed gratitude for his leadership and contribution to the development of the GCF since his appointment as the Executive Director. State Minister TAKEI stated that climate change is an e issue that the whole international community should address and that the role of the GCF in supporting climate actions by developing countries, is becoming increasingly important, and hoped further cooperation with the GCF in addressing climate change. State Minister TAKEI also requested Executive Director Glemarec to increase the visibility of the GCF in Japan for future collaboration between Japanese companies with advanced technologies and the GCF and promote recruitment of Japanese nationals to the GCF Secretariat.
- Executive Director Glemarec, in response, expressed his gratitude for Japan’s contribution and cooperation so far and reported the GCF’s activities including implementation of quality infrastructure projects and strengthening support to adaptation for climate vulnerable countries, especially for island countries.
- State Minister TAKEI and Executive Director Glemarec also exchanged views on the Strategic Plan for the second replenishment period 2024-2027. State Minister TAKEI stressed the importance of accelerating developing countries’ efforts on mitigation beyond 2024, strengthening support for climate vulnerable countries including island countries and further mobilizing private finance. They agreed to continue dialogue between Japan and the GCF.
