On March 18, commencing at 10:30 a.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Ms. ERI Arfiya, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, received a courtesy call from Ms. Ragnheiður Árnadóttir, Director of the Organisation for Economic and Co-operation and Development (OECD) Development Centre, who was visiting Japan. The summary is as follows.
- Parliamentary Vice-Minister ERI expressed her appreciation for the attention that the upcoming OECD report “Rebuilding for the Future: Compendium of Good Practices on Quality Infrastructure 2026”dedicates to the initiatives of Okuma Town, and the emphasis that the Compendium places on quality infrastructure, one of the key priorities for Japan. She also conveyed Japan’s hopes to see initiatives that encourage all development cooperation providers, including emerging donors, to adhere to and promote international rules and standards, as well as DEV’s continued efforts in promoting and disseminating quality infrastructure.
- In response, Director Árnadóttir stated how she had referred to the importance of human-centred investments for post-disaster reconstruction at the launch event on the Compendium, held in Okuma Town, Fukushima. She further expressed her deep gratitude for Japan's support to quality infrastructure so far and her intention to continue strengthening efforts toward quality infrastructure development.
- Both sides shared views of continuing to work further closely together, in light of the recent changing landscape in development cooperation.
