Mr. KISHIDA’s Visit to the Philippines, as Special Envoy of the Prime Minister (visiting the Batangas LNG Terminal and exchanging views with ASEAN Business Advisory Council, etc.)

On May 1, local time, Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, a Member of the House of Representatives, who is visiting the Philippines as Special Envoy of Prime Minister TAKAICHI Sanae and Supreme Advisor to the Parliamentary Association of Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC), with members of the Parliamentary Association of AZEC, visited the Batangas LNG Terminal and exchanged views with ASEAN Business Advisory Council, and held talks with Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri. The overview is as follows.
- Mr. KISHIDA visited the Batangas LNG Terminal, which is jointly operated by Tokyo Gas and the Philippines companies. The Philippines is promoting to utilize LNG for the energy transition, and this facility shows bilateral cooperation between Japan and the Philippines under AZEC.
- Mr. KISHIDA and the members of the Parliamentary Association of AZEC exchanged views with ASEAN Business Advisory Council. They actively discussed on deepening Japan-ASEAN relations, including support for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) as well as the promotion of entrepreneurship and start-ups.
- Mr. Kishida held talks with Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri, former Senate President, and conveyed congratulations on his conferment of the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun as part of the 2025 Autumn Conferment of Decorations on Foreign Nationals. Senator Zubiri expressed his welcome for Mr. Kishida’s visit to the Philippines. He also stated that he would continue to devote himself as a friend of Japan to strengthening Japan-Philippines relations.
- In addition, during his stay in the Philippines, Mr. KISHIDA exchanged views with Japanese companies operating in the Philippines, among other activities.
