On July 7, Ms. Suzuki Takako, State Minister for Foreign Affairs received a courtesy call by Mr. Yannick Glemarec, Executive Director of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and had discussions for approximately 30 minutes, during his visit to Japan.

  1. State Minister Suzuki extended a warm welcome to Executive Director Glemarec, visiting Japan for the first time in approximately two years in order to hold the Japan-GCF annual policy dialogue. State Minister Suzuki stated that the GCF supports reduction of greenhouse gases emission (mitigation) and addressing impacts of climate change (adaptation) in developing countries and its role is increasingly important and Japan will further cooperate with the GCF as one of the biggest donors. She also requested Executive Director Glemarec to strengthen the capacity of the GCF operation, increase the visibility of the GCF and its activities in the Japanese public and promote recruitment of Japanese nationals to the GCF Secretariat.
  2. Executive Director Glemarec, in response, expressed his gratitude for Japan’s contribution and cooperation and stated that the GCF will strengthen its efforts to acquire its recognition in Japan and organize career seminars for the Japanese citizens.
  3. State Minister Suzuki and Executive Director Glemarec also exchanged views on utilizing climate related technologies of Japanese companies, including small and medium enterprises for the GCF projects and agreed to continue dialogue between Japan and the GCF.
