Prime Minister ISHIBA’s telephone meeting withH.E. Mr. António Manuel de Oliveira Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations

On May 23, commencing at 7:15 a.m. for approximately ten minutes, Prime Minister ISHIBA Shigeru held a telephone call with H.E. Mr. António Manuel de Oliveira Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations. The overview of the meeting is as follows:
- Prime Minister ISHIBA stated that the United Nations is playing an important role as the international community faces multiple challenges. The Prime Minister further mentioned that he would like to closely work with the Secretary General towards the United Nations reform and UN80 initiative under his leadership. In response, Secretary-General Guterres expressed his appreciation for Japan's support to the activities of the United Nations.
- Both sides confirmed that they would further discuss cooperation between Japan and the United Nations through such opportunities as the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9) in August and the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan.
