Japan and the United Nations

  1. H.E. Mr. Dennis Francis, President of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, will visit Japan from February 11 to 15 by ministerial invitation.
  2. During his visit, Mr. Francis will pay a courtesy call on Prime Minister Kishida Fumio and hold a meeting with Foreign Minister Kamikawa Yoko.
  3. It is expected that this visit will strengthen the cooperative relationship between Japan and the United Nations and promote various international contribution initiatives that Japan is pursuing at the United Nations.

H.E. Mr. Dennis Francis was born in Trinidad and Tobago and served as Permanent Representative of TT to the United Nations, Director of the Multilateral Relations Division of the Foreign and CARICOM Affairs of TT, and the Permanent Representative of TT to the UN in Geneva.
In June 2023, he was elected as the President of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly. His term as President of the UN General Assembly runs from September 2023 until September 2024.
