Exchange of Views between Japanese Foreign Minister and U.S. Secretary of State

On September 21, commencing at 11:55 a.m. local time, for approximately 10minutes, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who is visiting New York, the United States, to attend the General Assembly of the United Nations, held an exchange of views with the Honorable Marco Rubio, Secretary of State of the United States of America.
- They exchanged views on the regional situation in the Indo-Pacific, including issues related to China and concurred that they would continue to work in close coordination to further strengthen the Japan-U.S. Alliance.
- They exchanged views on the situation surrounding Iran. Minister MOTEGI explained Japan’s efforts, including his own diplomatic efforts, and emphasized the importance of stability across the Middle East and of ensuring free and safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz without additional costs.They concurred to continue close communication.
- The two Ministers also exchanged views on the International Criminal Court (ICC).
