Working dinner of the Foreign Ministers of the G4 Countries on UN Security Council Reform

On February 14, commencing at 7:15 p.m. local time (3:15 a.m. on February 15, Japan Time) for approximately 50 minutes, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, during his visit to Munich, Germany, attended a working dinner of the Foreign Ministers of the G4 countries (Japan, the Federative Republic of Brazil, the Federal Republic of Germany and the Republic of India) on United Nations Security Council Reform. The overview of the meeting is as follows:
- Minister MOTEGI highlighted the importance of close cooperation among the G4 to restore the confidence of the international community in the United Nations, stressing that the UN must continue to play a vital role amid the growing instability of the international order, and also reiterated his firm resolve to continue collaboration within the G4 partners in the Intergovernmental Negotiation (IGN) on Security Council Reform, and further facilitate consultations with relevant countries, leading international discussions on this agenda, which was met with support from the participating countries.
- The G4 participants agreed to aim for concrete results during the current session while working with relevant countries including current permanent members of the Council and African countries.
