Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs AKAHORI’s Attendance at the United Nations Security Council High Level Open Debate on Leadership for Peace

On September 25, commencing around 11:40 a.m. local time, for approximately 120 minutes, Mr. AKAHORI Takeshi, Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, who was visiting New York, participated in the United Nations Security Council High Level Open Debate on Leadership for Peace.
In his statement, Senior Deputy Minister AKAHORI emphasized that, amid the growing divisions and confrontations around the world, Japan will continue to exercise leadership while working closely with other countries for international peace and security.
During the Open Debate, a Security Council presidential statement was adopted, which emphasizes the importance of the Security Council primary responsibility for the maintenance of international peace and security, compliance with international law, including Security Council resolutions, protection of civilians in armed conflicts, and the central role of the United Nations in multilateralism.
