Japan and the United Nations

From May 17 to 20, H. E. Mr. António Manuel de Oliveira Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, will visit Japan.

  1. During his stay in Japan, His Majesty the Emperor of Japan will hold an audience to Secretary-General Guterres. Also, Ms. TAKAICHI Sanae, Prime Minister of Japan, will hold a meeting with Secretary-General.
  2. Furthermore, Secretary-General Guterres will participate in the United Nations System Chief Executive Board for Coordination (CEB) and its related events. Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, will exchange views with Secretary-General and the Executive Heads of the UN system who visit Japan to attend the CEB.
  3. This year marks the 70th anniversary of Japan’s admission to the United Nations, and this visit is expected to further strengthen the cooperative relationship between Japan and the United Nations.

The UN’s internal meeting in which the heads of the UN system and the relevant organizations participate. This will be the first time the meeting is held in Asia.
