G7 Evian Summit
Session on “Building Peace and Security for Ukraine and Europe”

On June 16, commencing at 9.50 a.m. local time (4.50 p.m. on the same day, Japan time) for approximately 80 minutes, Ms. TAKAICHI Sanae, Prime Minister of Japan, attended the G7 Evian Summit session on “Building Peace and Security for Ukraine and Europe.” In addition to the G7 leaders, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine participated in this session.
- Prime Minister TAKAICHI stated that Ukraine should continue to be supported in a manner that fully respects the Ukrainian people’s will regarding their country's future. She emphasized that, in order to achieve a just and lasting peace, Japan values G7 unity and coordination in encouraging Russia to take positive and concrete actions immediately.
- Prime Minister TAKAICHI stressed that attempts to unilaterally change the status quo by force must not be tolerated and she expressed concern about military cooperation between Russia and North Korea, as well as the growing military ties between Russia and China.
- Prime Minister TAKAICHI stated that Japan has been steadily providing assistance to Ukraine.
- The G7 leaders reaffirmed their commitment to continue working together toward achieving a just and lasting peace for Ukraine.
