The First Meeting of the Japan-Italy Space Consultation was held in Tokyo on May 28 and 29, 2026.

  1. This Consultation was held at director level based on the shared understanding between the leaders of both countries at the Japan-Italy Summit Meeting in January of this year, that cooperation in the space field would be further strengthened. Officials from space-related ministries, agencies, and organizations from both Japan and Italy gathered, and in addition to exchanging the latest updates on the space policies of both countries, they held broad discussions on areas such as international cooperation, security, industry and commerce, and science.
  2. Both sides confirmed the great potential for Japan-Italy cooperation across all space fields, including security, civil cooperation, and industry, and concurred to further deepen their collaboration.
  3. Furthermore, regarding measures against space debris, both sides shared the view on the importance of promoting the development of international rules and norms through collaboration among allies and like-minded countries.
