The Fourth Meeting of the Japan-France Comprehensive Dialogue on Space

The Fourth Meeting of the Japan-France Comprehensive Dialogue on Space was held in Tokyo on January 15, 2026.
- The dialogue provided an opportunity to exchange the latest updates on the space policy of each side and to hold broad discussions on international cooperation, security, civil and industrial cooperation, and other areas of mutual interests.
- Japanese delegation was led by Mr. KADOWAKI Jinichi, Ambassador in charge of Policy Planning, International Security Policy and Space Policy (Deputy Assistant Minister, Foreign Policy Bureau) and Mr. KAZEKI Jun, Director-General, National Space Policy Secretariat, Cabinet Office. French delegation was led by H.E. Ms. Anne-Marie DESCÔTES, Secretary General of the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs of the French Republic and Lieutenant-General Cédric GAUDILLIÈRE, Deputy Secretary General for Defense and National Security.
- The Roadmap on Japan-France Cooperation (2023-2027), presented in December 2023, addresses space as one of the significant areas of cooperation, from both perspectives of security and science technology. The Japanese delegation explained, amongst others, Japan’s progressive approach to space debris and stressed the importance of making space-related international rules and norms in coordination amongst allies and like-minded countries. The Japanese delegation also explained its perspective to utilize the Quasi-Zenith Satellite System.
- Both sides reaffirmed that Japan and France are making steady progress with their space cooperation in all regards of space ranging from security to civil and industrial sector, and concurred on further strengthening concrete cooperation between two sides.
