Courtesy Call on Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs ONISHI by Ms. Holla Maini, Director of the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA)

On February 27, commencing at 1:30 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. ONISHI Yohei, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call from Ms. Aarti Holla Maini, Director of the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), during her visit to Japan. The overview of the meeting is as follows:
- Parliamentary Vice-Minister Onishi welcomed Director Holla-Maini’s visit to Japan and emphasized that, given the increasing diversification and intensification of outer space activities, Japan attaches importance to the peaceful and sustainable use of outer space in accordance with international law. He also expressed Japan’s intention to work closely with UNOOSA towards furthering international rule-making in outer space, including space traffic management and space debris mitigation and remediation.
- In response, Director Holla Maini expressed her gratitude for Japan’s continued contributions and the work of Japanese personnel. Director Holla-Maini also conveyed her hopes for Japan’s further contributions to the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS), and expressed her hope to continue to strengthen collaboration with Japan.
